Noh is the Japanese classical play performed to Noh singing. It is performed on the special stage called "Nohgakudo" or Noh Theater. There is a strict standard on the style of the Noh Theater, and little difference can be seen among the Noh theaters all over Japan.Otaru's Noh Theater is one of those authentic, and the only Noh Theater in Hokkaido. It was a private property that a wealthy merchant had it built on his premises in 1926. Later, it was donated to Otaru City in 1954, and moved to the present site, on the premises of Otaru City Meeting Hall from its original site in 1961. It is open to public from June 1st to the end of August, 10:00-16:30 every day this year. Open practice by performers is planned as following schedule: June 24th (Sat.), July 1st (Sat.), 2nd (Sun.), 8th (Sat.), 23rd (Sun.), 30th (Sun.) No charge for admission and viewing the performing practice.
