Genghis Khan, pronounced "Jingisukan" in Japanese, is the name of a familiar dish among the people from Hokkaido.
Genghis Khan is a kind of barbecue which thinly sliced lamb or mutton is grilled on a round, humpbacked grill pan. It is eaten with vegetables like bean sprouts, green peppers, onions cooked on the pan together with lamb.
We usually enjoy Jingisukan outdoors as a picnic lunch, but it is always served at jingisukan restaurants throughout the year.
Recently, Jingisukan has boomed among Japanese women not only in Hokkaido but also in other areas of Japan, since researchers found out that lamb was good for you, and some of its properties contributed to your weight control.
